When Your Synthetic Lawn Needs Help
Turf repair and replacement covers synthetic lawns that have started to fail: seams pulling apart, edges curling up, low spots holding water, blades matted flat along walkways, or a dog area that never stops smelling. We repair what can be repaired and replace what cannot, and in both cases we look for the reason it failed, since most turf problems start below the surface.
Common problems we see
- Split seams, often from seams that were taped but not glued and nailed, or that opened up as turf expanded and contracted through hot days and cool nights
- Lifted edges along walks and curbs where fasteners were spaced too far apart
- Dips and ridges from a base that was never compacted or was laid over old lawn
- Matted traffic paths where infill washed out and blades lay down
- Persistent odor in pet areas with a backing or base that does not drain
- Burn marks from reflected sunlight off windows, grills or fire pits
Repair or replace?
Angi's 2026 data puts turf repairs and replacement at about $2 to $10 per square foot, depending on how much has to come up. A few failed seams or edges are a quick, small job. If the base is sinking in several places, the turf is past its life, or a pet area has soaked odor into the base, a partial or full replacement is usually the better money. HomeGuide puts quality turf life at 15 to 25 years with good care; a lawn that looks bad well before that usually had installation problems.
How we fix the base
For dips and soft spots we peel back the turf, dig out the soft area, add and compact base rock, and relay the turf on the corrected grade. For a smelly dog area we remove and replace the contaminated base and infill, then reinstall with a permeable backing and odor-control infill.
Bringing tired turf back
Not every older lawn needs to be replaced. A power brush and fresh infill can stand matted blades back up and restore the cushion. Angi lists infill at about $0.30 to $1.75 per pound. We tell you honestly whether a refresh will hold or whether you are better off putting that money toward new turf.
Reflected sunlight
Low-E windows can focus sunlight onto turf and melt the blades in streaks. If we find melt lines, we repair the patch and talk through fixes such as a screen, a shade or a plant that breaks up the reflection.

Turf Repair & Replacement Questions
Can you repair turf someone else installed?
Yes. Most of our repair work is on lawns installed by others. We match the turf as closely as we can for patches and fix the base problems underneath.
Why are my turf seams coming apart?
Usually the seam was not glued and nailed properly, or the turf expands and contracts with heat more than the seam can handle. We re-glue on fresh seaming tape and secure it.
How do I get rid of dog urine smell in my turf?
Rinse often and use an enzyme cleaner first. If the smell stays, the base is usually holding urine. Replacing the infill and base under the pet area fixes it for good.
What are the melted streaks on my artificial grass?
Often sunlight reflected from a window, especially energy-efficient glass. We repair the damaged area and suggest a screen, shade or planting to break up the reflection.
