Turf Where Grass Never Lasted
Pool and patio turf is synthetic grass installed in the hard-to-grow spots around a backyard: the strip between the pool coping and the block wall, gaps between pavers, a patch of concrete that needs softening, or a covered patio area. In Bakersfield, these are the places where grass dies first, gets splashed with pool water, and tracks mud into the pool. Synthetic grass turns them into clean green space.
Around the pool
Fixr lists turf around a pool at about $6 to $12 per square foot installed. Pool areas need extra attention to drainage, since splash-out and rinse water hit the same strip all summer. We grade the base away from the pool deck so dirty water does not run back into the pool, and we choose infill that will not wash into the water. Turf also gives wet feet better grip than many decking finishes.
Turf over concrete
Old concrete patios and slabs can be covered with turf over a foam pad, which Fixr lists at about $2.50 to $3 per square foot for the padding. The slab needs a slight slope or drainage holes so water does not sit under the turf. This is a good fit for a covered patio, a rooftop deck or a play area on concrete, but not for a slab that is cracked and heaving.
Between pavers
Turf strips between pavers or stepping stones give a modern, clean look and stay neater than grass or gravel joints. Each strip is cut and fastened by hand, so it costs more per foot than open lawn. We set them slightly below the paver surface so they do not catch a mower or trip anyone.
Heat on the deck
Pool decks and patios already reflect a lot of heat, and turf in direct sun gets hot too. Under a patio cover or shade sail, turf stays comfortable; on the open south side of a pool, it can be too hot for bare feet on a summer afternoon. We help you choose where turf goes and where cool decking is the better choice, and we suggest lighter turf colors for sunny edges.
Planters and transitions
Pool yards usually have raised planters, block walls and equipment pads. We cut turf tight to each one, leave a clean gap around pool equipment for service, and fasten edges so wind and foot traffic do not lift them.

How It Works
1. Look at the pool yard
We check slopes, splash zones, planters, equipment and shade.
2. Plan drainage
Grade or slab drainage set so water leaves the turf and stays out of the pool.
3. Prep the surface
Soil removed and base compacted, or slab cleaned and padded.
4. Cut, fit and fasten
Turf cut to each edge, fastened, filled and brushed.

Pool & Patio Turf Questions
Is artificial grass good around a pool?
Yes, if it drains. Turf around a pool stays green despite splash-out and chlorine, and it is softer than concrete. We grade it so water runs away from the pool and pick an infill that will not wash in.
Can you put turf over a concrete patio?
Yes, over a foam pad, as long as the slab is sound and sloped or drilled so water can drain. Cracked, heaving slabs should be repaired or removed first.
Does turf around a pool get hot?
In direct sun, yes. It is best under shade or on the cooler side of the pool. Lighter turf colors and a quick rinse help on hot afternoons.
Will chlorine damage artificial grass?
Normal splash-out from a balanced pool does not harm good synthetic turf. Rinse the area occasionally to clear salt or chemical buildup.
